Chapter 1

I choose this picture because it is long island's east and west egg. This is where most of the 1st chapter takes place. Gatsby and Nick live on the west egg this is the place where newly rich people without connections live. on the east eggs lives nick's cousin daisy and her husband Tom. the east egg is where the the people with wealthy families live or people that have connections. It is odd that nick does not live on the East egg because he comes from a wealthy family from the mid west and he went to Yale which is also where Tom, Daisy's husband, went nick and tom were in the same social club. Nick's house is very small house especially compared to his neighbor Gatsby's mansion.

"'Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone,' he told me, ' just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.'" (pg 5). I choose this quote because this is nick talking about how his father told him not to judge people because of the experinces they have and since Nick lives in a part of Long islandin a house that would not normally suit someone like him shows that he does not judge as much as other people.

" My house was a eye-sore" (pg 9). i choose this quote because I talked about how Nick lived in a small house in my picture analysis and in this quote nick is comparing his house to the other houses especially gatsby's

" Across the bay the white palaces of fashionable East Egg glittered along the water" (pg 10) This quote talks about the houses of the East Egg and makes them sound much more impresive then the West Egg.

" Oh I'll stay in the east, dont you worry,"..."I'd be a God Damn fool to live anywhere else." this quote is not really talking about the Eggs but it is symbolism for the how the East is Better then the West.

The theme of this chapter is the American dream. The american Dream is to be rich and live a lavished life style The narrartor, nick, moves to the east to become a bond man so he can be rich and live the american dream. It also has nick admiring his rich nieghbor, Gatsby, and all the stuff he has. Nck's cousin Daisy is married to a rich manm named Tom and they live on the East Egg they seem very happy. We also meet a friend of dasiy and tom named Jordan who is a female golfer that is rich and self made.
